FOCAL attended the 2011 Dinner of the Americas, hosted by the Canadian Council for the Americas Alberta chapter in collaboration with the CCA Ontario and British Columbia chapters. The gala event, held in Calgary on March 25, 2011, marked the Inter-American Development Bank’s Annual Meeting, and featured many distinguished guests and dignitaries, including His Excellency Vicente Fox, Former President of Mexico, the Honourable Ed Stelmach, Premier of Alberta, and Mayor of Calgary Naheed Nenshi, among others. Pictured below is Mayor of Calgary Naheed Nenshi (centre) with Executive Director of FOCAL Carlo Dade (right) and FOCAL intern Sarah Araujo (left). Ms. Araujo was the recipient of a Canadian Council for the Americas (Alberta Chapter) Essay Prize on Latin America in Social Sciences for her paper entitled "Bolivia's Indigenous Movements: From Suppression to Expression."
