Meeting between Latin American and Caribbean Diaspora Organizations, Foreign Affairs Canada and the Canadian International Development Agency,
October 26, 2005
The first session with Foreign Affairs Canada, which will be chaired by the Honourable Lloyd Axworthy, will discuss political, social and cultural connections between Diaspora organizations and their communities of origin in the region.
The second session with the Canadian International Development Agency will focus on Diaspora linkages to economic issues such as job creation, trade and investment and will be chaired by Alain Berranger of the International Research Development Centre.

Multilateral Investment Fund – Canadian Foundation for the Americas present "Caribbean Diasporas, Remittances and Development Conference Series", May 30, Toronto - May 31, 2005, Montreal -- [Final Report]
The series of two, one-day meetings to be held in Montréal and Toronto will present the results of new survey research on remittance flows from Canada to the Caribbean, remittance usage in the Caribbean, and the results of a mapping study of Information Communication Technology (ICT) usage by Caribbean Diasporas. The meetings will discuss methods to reduce the costs of transferring remittances, to increase the ease and accessibility of remittance transmission, and to mobilize savings through the increased involvement of formal financial institutions. The meeting also will introduce projects being undertaken by the MIF and other development agencies to Canadian-based Diaspora organizations from Haiti, Jamaica and Guyana.
