The Cuban Research Institute was founded in 1991 and is housed within the Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC) of Florida International University. Drawing upon the Cuba-related expertise of more than 30 FIU faculty, it supports research and academic programs on Cuban and Cuban American issues. Since its foundation, the CRI has maintained a program of academic exchange and research collaboration with Cuban scholars, supporting trips to and from Cuba by FIU faculty and students and colleagues on the island. The CRI is the editorial office of the academic journal, Cuban Studies/Estudios Cubanos.
FLACSO-Mexico (Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences) is part of a regional organization that conducts research and training in the social sciences. It includes ten regional offices, including in Argentina, Chile, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
