Research Forum on North America

The purpose of the Research Forum on North America is to promote fresh and new thinking and research on North America.

FOCAL is at the vanguard in conceptualizing North American integration, by looking at the development of trilateral and bilateral relations with the United States and Mexico.  Supported by its long-standing work on Mexican news and analysis , FOCAL is the only think tank in Canada that has specialized in the Canada-Mexico relationship, the least studied of North America's three bilateral relations. Our work on the Canada-U.S. relationship is centred on the potential for cooperation within the Americas.

Current projects:

Canada-Mexico Initiative: The Consejo Mexicano de Asuntos Internacionales and the Canadian Foundation for the Americas are combining forces to create an independent working group that will bring forward ideas to add dynamism, deepen and broaden the relationship between Mexico and Canada. The Working Group is co-chaired by the Hon. William Graham, former Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defense and by H.E.  Ambassador Rosario Green, President of External Relations Commission of Mexico’s Senate and former Secretary of External Relations for Mexico. For more information, contact FOCAL's Executive Director Carlo Dade at 613-562-005 ext. 222 or by email cdade@focal.ca or Olga Abizaid.

Metropolis North America
Metropolis North America is a joint initiative between FOCAL, Metropolis International Project, U.S. Homeland Security and the Centre for Research on North America (CISAN) from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México to foster research and dialogue on labour mobility within North America. This initiative was created under the auspices of the Expert Dialogue on Labour Mobility that took place in Mexico City in 2008. For more information, contact Olga Abizaid or Barbara MacLaren at 613-562-005 ext. 230, email: bmaclaren@focal.ca.
