|Third roundtable of the Willson House Process|
What: Third roundtable of the Willson House Process
This third roundtable of the Willson House Process —named after the first venue— is expected to increase co-operation between the Haitian private sector and Haiti’s newly elected government. The outcomes of the roundtable will be disseminated in four languages to inform donors, the Government of Haiti and the private sector.
When: May 16-17, 2011
Where: Washington, D.C.
Who: FOCAL, in collaboration with the Forum économique du secteur privé d’Haïti (FESP) and the Inter-American Dialogue (IAD), will host a meeting between leaders of the Haitian private sector, Canadian senior officials and Washington-based international organizations and donors. Speakers will include Dr. Reginald Boulos, co-ordinator of Haiti's newly created Forum économique du secteur privé and FOCAL executive director Carlo Dade.
Background: Starting in September 2005, FOCAL and the Inter-American Dialogue convened a series of groundbreaking meetings between leaders of the Haitian private sector and international donors at Willson House on Meech Lake near Canada’s capital city, and later in Atlanta and in Port-au-Prince. These meetings were a unique attempt to harness some of the ideas and energy of the one sector in Haiti with the resources and skills to reduce poverty from within and to help build capacity for development through formalization, modernization, privatization and decentralization in a variety of sectors. The meetings also provided the starting point for a discussion of the private sector’s role in supporting education reforms, a particular area of business involvement and investment.
